Angels / Spirit beings: See also Mankind
Aggelos (32) messenger, to bring tidings, the intermediary between the sender and the receiver of a message.
Verses - Exe 3:2 Col 2:18 Heb 1:6 12:22 13:2 1Peter 1:12 2Peter 2:4 Jude Ver. 6 Rev 1:1 22:16
First Use: Genesis 6:2 That the sons of God (angels) saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Angel means messenger, angels are Gods messengers, His assistants. Angels do not deliver their own message but they speak and assist when they are directed first from God. Angels are spirit beings, who are created by God for companionship with God. The spirit realm is the permanent realm and angels as spirit beings have an everlasting existence. Angels are sons of God this means three things; first they are each a unique creation of God. Angels do not marry and have babies like humans do. God individually created each angel. Second, being sons [family members] they are in the visible presence of God. Third, being sons they have received an inheritance with God.

Holy angels: The holy angels are Gods messengers to help and assist believing humans. Heb 1:14 Are they (holy angels) not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them (people) who shall be heirs (inheritors) of salvation. Only holy (Gods) people have holy (Gods) angels. The fact that there are angels is another way to prove that God exists. Angels are the messengers, having a messenger requires a sender and a receiver of the message. God is the sender of the messenger and we are the receiver of Gods message. A lot of people in todays society will acknowledge the presence of angels and they are correct angels do exist as the Bible tells us that they do, to acknowledge angels requires us to acknowledge the sender of the angel, God. True there are also plenty of unholy angels around, so it is very important to test every single message and make certain that it comes from holy angels and matches the Holy Bible. Some people may indeed have an angel communicating with them but it is in no means a holy angel of God if the message communicated does not match the Bible.

Rev 19:10 And I (disciple John) fell at his feet (holy angel) to worship him. And he said to me, See you do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Fallen angels: unholy angels
Heb 2:16,17 For verily He (Jesus) took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham {became a human, not an angel}.. to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. Fallen angels are not eligible for redemption like fallen humans are. The reason is that because of the status of angels from which they chose to rebel. It was in the presence of God, in their inherited body, and from their inheritance that some angels chose to rebel from, and became fallen angels. There is not another inheritance, or body, for the fallen angels, nor can they remain forever in the visible presence of God because of their sin.

Mat 25:41 Then shall He (God) say to them (unbelievers) on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels:

Jude Ver. 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation (God given spiritual body), He hath reserved in everlasting chains {the more wicked fallen angels are chained} under darkness (out of the visible presence of God) unto the judgment of the great day.

Col 1:20 And having made peace through the blood of His (Jesus) cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself, by Him, I say, whether they be things {humans} in earth or things {holy angels} in heaven. Angels in the past have rebelled against God. This verse indicates that since the cross of Jesus there will be no more new additional angels rebelling against God. But the angels that have rebelled against God will continue to rebel against God.

From Gen 6:2 it would seem that Angels DO have children, or rather reproduce. It seems there are only male Angels. (otherwise there would be 'daughters of God')

Hi Will,
Before the Bible was Completed people sill had the Spoken word of God to guide their lives by.

Adam lived for 930 years on earth. Enoch walked with God and was pleasing to God. In every generation people have known and followed God. Abraham and Job both knew about God before the Bible was recorded and both Worshiped God the same way with reverence and sacrifice and Both looked forward to the Redemption that would save mankind from sin and death.

The Bible in context has always existed, The Bible is the same message since Genesis chapter 3 after the sin and God promised to send Himself as the Redeemer of mankind. Mankind knows that God exists and that sin exists in the world and that man needs to be delivered from sin and death and reunited into a relationship with God.

Let us then consider, if you will, Moses, Noah, & Lot. By what did they compare the entity claiming to be 'God' to in order to prove the veracity of the claim?

Happily. It comes from my original response-
**True

may indeed have an angel
communicating with them but it is in no means a holy angel of God if the

So what did people test them against before the Bible was compiled?

You responded that the early people conversed with 'God' directly, as in the cases of Adam & Enoch. (As well as Abraham, but I must confess a lack of knowledge about that tale, & so, redirected the topic to some I did know)

In both cases, Moses & Noah, a voice addresses them with instructions & claims to be 'God'. (Actually in Moses' case DOESN'T, the voice claims only to be "I am that I am".) Since both occurred BEFORE any compliation of books concerning YHVH, HOW did they 'know' they were actually addressed by YHVH & not Satan??

In Lot's case, he is addressed by a person claiming to be an Angel. How does Lot 'know' if it is an Angel or a Demon?

Good points!
God is able to reveal Himself to His creation.

Notice the Message that God Spoke to these people Noah, Abraham etc. A message of Hope and of Love. Messages in character with the Creator who loves His creation. God Promised Abraham and Inheritance. God promised Noah and his family Safety and continued life on the Ark and God promised to fulfill His promises.

Since Mankind Started with the Knowledge of God, God only has to reveal Himself in Character to Himself.

If an entity (spirit, voice or person) were to tell you that if you did as told, you would be spared while everyone you know would be murdered by it, you would accept this as proof you were being addressed by Yehovah or on of his Angels?
Could not Satan or a Demon make the same offer?

Is this in reference to Noah and the flood?
The people were not murdered the world was Judged by water. The people who did not go into the Ark died.

In the Bible Physical death is the first death, Then comes Judgment spiritual Judgment it is the spiritual judgment that allows people into Heaven or condemns them to Hell.

God Spoke to Noah about the flood, But then God also had to bring on the flood.

Yes demons can and do talk it is very important to Discern any voices or intentions that you have.

But can a demon bring something to pass like a global flood?

*Note God probably had several conversations with Noah and God probably revealed Himself to Noah in many ways. The Bible is just recording the basics of what we need to know about God.

It could be. It could also apply as well to Moses, or to Lot...
Hmm, people deliberately killed.. Seems like the definition of 'murder' to me. We can just call it 'killed' if you prefer. I realize physical death is the first death. One would assume that no Demon or even Satan can cause the second, as it is Judgement of Jehovah. (God) (in this I mean only in the Judeo-Christian Mythos as well, as that is all that is relevant to this discussion)

Perhaps a Demon could cause a global flood, we do not know the limits of their power. However, would you not agree that Satan (being second in power only to Jehovah) could? Could even a Demon not destroy a City? (Lot, Moses)

My point being, I agree, one needs to discern whether a spirit, voice or person is indeed whom they claim to be, (especially if claiming to be Jehovah or an Angel) yet HOW can one do so?? Even in the case of Noah, he had no idea IF the voice claiming to be 'God' could cause a flood, until it was accomplished.

I will reveal further my point, how can we know that Moses was not deluded by a Demon claiming to be "I am that I am"? It caused death... Big deal! I can do that!

(I ask honestly, & look forward to your response.)

Better yet, what if Moses was led all along by a demon? Never once did the voice say "I am Jehovah." Simply "I am what I am." (God and Popeye, coincidence?) The 10 commandments, the exodus, everything we really base christianity around could be the work of a demon or the voices inside a mad man's head.

God had a lifetime relationship with Moses. God saved Moses as a child when Pharaoh issued an edict to Kill all the Hebrew children.
God revealed His Glory to Moses Many Times.

God fulfilled His promise to Deliver the Jews out of the Slavery and Bondage of Egypt. God Delivered the Hebrews by parting the Red Sea. God Brought the Hebrews into the Promise Land and defeated their enemies for them.

A difference between God and Satan is that God is Good and Satan is evil. God brings deliverance and Salvation from our enemies. Our biggest Enemy is Sin and Death, God has concurred many enemies. Pharaoh of Egypt, The Demonic spirits of Noahs day, the power of Satan, and Death having Resurrected to Life. Having overcome all of these Enemies of our Soul we Know that no weapon fashioned against us will prosper. God is capable and willing to deliver us out of every danger.

God is God. Satan is a created being, Satan has about as much power over God as an aluminum soda can has over a man.

Dont make yourself an enemy of God!

Lot of great theology here!! Love the site. Now for my two cents,
God made a covenant with the nation of Israel that they would be his chosen people. He made the promise that the messiah would come from this line of people. He had the plan in place from the time of original sin(Genesis).God chose one nation of people as his own so that all the things that were prophesied could easily be identified and he could PROVE to everyone he was the only true GOD.

Now back to the line of thought that Moses could have been led out of bondage by a demon or even Satan himself??If Moses (and the entire nation of Israel) was delivered from bondage by Satan he could have easily unparted the Red sea with all of Israel in the middle killing everyone. This would have wiped out all of God's chosen people thus eliminating Jesus ever being born. This would have caused God to be a liar and would have caused him to cease to be God(infallible).

So if you do believe that Satan led him out of bondage then he missed a golden opportunity due to STUPIDITY !!

The fact that Hitler (and many others) tried to wipe out the jewish race just proves that if he had been able to strike a blow like that he would have.

That is why I Praise God that it was HIM who had the people of Israel in his protection feeding and supplying their needs.

Born again believers spend far too much time fearing Satan in everyday life.We have been GIVEN the victory over death AND sin!!!Satan merely pollutes the world with temptations for our flesh to give into.I know there are demons on earth and I know that Satan is very powerful. But Satan is not omnipotent or omnipresent as we sometimes wrongly give him credit for.If Satan did know all things he would have easily led Herod to the baby Jesus to be slaughtered.Instead thousands had to be slain and he still missed!!!!!The Devil doesn't tempt us, our flesh does, and we have been given power to defeat the desires of our flesh(the blood of Christ).

Sorry for the long post just got carried away in my Victory!!!!!!

Excellent Post!
I couldnt say it better myself.

Yeah Gods plan and Satans plans are so divergent that it is easy to tell the two apart.

Satan is Kill, Steal, Destroy, Humiliate, Use, and Abuse.

Gods plans are Love, Hope, Patience, Faithfulness, Longsuffering, Life, Happiness, Fulfillment, Joy, Fellowship and Much, Much more.

When we stop to think about who God is and who Satin is the Battle ends there. Satan is incapable of doing anything to God. That is why Satan picks on people because we are no match for Satan, unless of course we Call on Jesus to protect us which I Do every day and Jesus has mightily protected me.

*I have also been wanting to post a Reminder to people That Satan is NOT the ruler of Hell. Satan will be a prisoner of hell just like everyone else down there. Satan has no kingdom. Satan is a Liar. The people who are serving Satan are just being used and have no hope and no future, Unless they turn to God!

Yes, God may be all that you said, but he has his wrong points too, no matter what you or anyone may say.
For example let's take Moses, since the topic seems to run around him.....he threw away his position as the son of a Pharoah, faced hte wrath of his "father", lead the people out of Egypt, they all risked death from the Egyptian army at the Red Sea, risked the wrath of his own people, after coming down from the mountains amd destroying their idol, and for all this LIFE of sacrifice, for a SECOND of doubt, when he struck the mountain to draw water, and for a few seconds, nothing came, he struck it again, the BENEVOLENT God did not allow him to enter the Promised Land.

Ooo yes, he's Forgiving all right,

I suppose I shall have to take your reply to be "you can't tell any difference, you just follow blindly"...
Let me also point out that Moses laid down MANY Laws, (supposedly from YHVH) & that breaking even the least of them is a sin, & any sin is enough to deny a person Heaven. Are you SURE you obey them all?

You completely miss the point. IF it were Satan leading Moses, all said 'Covenents' would be with SATAN, not 'God'. (can't use any of the names here, because IF so, they would all also mean Satan) If Moses was led by Satan, then the Jews would be Satan's 'chosen people'. See the point?

Like flooding the entire world? Destroying Cities? Plagues? Killing all first borns? Requiring the sacrifice of all first borns? Requiring burnt offerings?

Not much of that in the OT... (OK, lots of 'longsuffering' by his followers!)

Because OF Sin Mankind is Physically Separated from God. Therefore God is Revealing Himself to Mankind through Events of Mankind and The Selected Events were Written in the Bible for Everyone to Know Who God is and what He is Like.
Of Paramount Importance the Bible Teaches that Death Exists as the End result of Sin, That Death is the Enemy of Every Human, But that God In His Love for us Died for us (Overcoming Sin) and Resurrected to Life (Over coming Death), Christianity is LIFE in God.

There are Many Deaths and Catastrophes written about in the Bible. The Bible has recorded the true History of Mankind. A History that tells of Disobedience to God of Mans Rebellion and of Sin and Death.

Death is a Call to Repentance! Everyday there are Tragic examples of death, This Humanities Wakeup Call that life is valuable fragile and not permanent. This is also a Wakeup Call That Only Jesus has overcome Death and that to Live we Have to Follow Jesus.

You are Looking at the Sin and Despair of the world Yet God has Made a Provision in the Cross of Jesus. Look to God. It is not fair to Blame God for something He has Already Cured and God has Cured Death.

The Bible is Revealing Gods Plan for Mankind.
Moses is the Lawgiver. The Bible tells us that Because of the Disobedience of People, God gave Moses Laws for the People to Follow.

The Bible Also Tells us that Following the Law will Not get you into Heaven.

The Promise Land is a Type of Heaven. Being in the Promise Land Represents Being in Heaven.

Moses Representing the Law could not enter/lead the people into the promise land. The Law could see the promise land but not enter into it.

After Moses a very special Person named Joshua Led the People into the Promise Land/Heaven.

Joshua is the Old testament Name of Jesus.
Joshua = Hebrew = Jesus
Jesus = Greek = Jesus
*The English version of the Hebrew and Greek words.
*True Hebrew is Yeshua (Joshua)

God through the Bible is Telling us that Only Jesus can Bring us to Heaven!

After blowing off a life as a Pharoah so he could lead his merry people in a jaunty walkie walkie in the desert for fourty yeats, yes, in my eyes would make the person fit to enter the goddamned land that was the cause of all this.
And for a loving God, to send in a flood to wipe out the people, to kill the the first born of all Egyptian people, to keep on the same episode, hell, he looks more to me like a blood thirsty Viking freak.

And did you ever notice, that the book where war/murder/violence is always mentioned, happens to be called the BIBLE ?

Actually he didn't blow life off as a Pharoh so he could wander the desert aimlessly for 40 years. He was put in a basket and floated down the Nile because those poor innocent Egyptians that God punished were killing all the Hebrew babies. Then by the hand of God he was raised by his natural born mother in the Pharoh's kingdom.
What a loving awesome God to take care of his people.

Pardon me, but this really makes me curious. Why do we still not have the Spoken Word of God to live by, and why do you say 'before the Bible was completed'?

Dear David,
What do you think are the practical consequences for the Christian of today of the existence of angels and fallen angels?

Sincerely,

Hi,
Let me clarify if a can, We do have the word of God!

I think the Bible was completed at Genesis chapter 3 with the fall of Mankind and God promising to rescue us. All the rest of the Bible is detail of Genesis 3.

The significance of Knowing that the Angelic spiritual realm exists is understanding the environment in which we live in. We humans are susceptible to spirits and principalities, we need to know that not every spirit is loyal to God and not every spirit has our best interest, but that there are lying and deceiving spirits.

This takes us back to the Significance of the Bible and of Knowing and reading Gods word in the Bible.

Dear David,
That's a very interesting perspective on the Bible. I see what you're getting at! But at the same time, I disagree. The whole of the Word of God really is far more than that realized promise to rescue, a great deal of necessary truth and love in Jesus's person is bound up in more than that, though I -see- what you're getting at, and how you could try to encompass it all in that consideration. I just don't like to do it as it is too minimalistic.

I'm glad you clarified things, as the idea of the Bible being completed is an interesting one since after all, we didn't have any real 'Bibles' until just about the year 300. The Spoken Word has always been important to Judaism and Christianity and always will be.

RE: The second part, dealing with pricipalities and evil spirits..

That's something that really interests me, in that you can see the consequences of -ignoring- half of reality in the materialistic world, and even in that portion of Christianity which deals with it ignorantly or without much thought.

You can be moved by an angel in the appearance of light and it can decieve you! For many there is no way of telling one from another. And it can be difficult. If you do not have the fullness of the revealed Word to balance off the spiritual world against, you can be led into deceit! Our own authority is not enough to deal with the angels, we are spiritual amateurs all.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Thomas
